As Sickle Cell Awareness month comes to a close, we are pleased to have been able to share information about the disorder with the students at Paul Quinn College. We had 10 students sign up for stem cell registry with Be The Match, and we hope that you are inspired to as well! We know this disorder affects not only the patients themselves, but also the people around them: parents, siblings, teachers, friends, extended family are all affected by the shifts in how they interact with the world in order to keep their loved ones as safe and healthy as possible. Please take a few minutes to watch this video of Mrs. Kelly Gadsden, my cousin and mother of three children, two of whom have sickle cell anemia. These were the children who inspired our dedication with CVRMS towards bringing attention to this condition that affects people of color in a distinct manner, and we hope you are inspired to join the registry as well.
