We understand that the future of healthcare depends on those who will shape it. That’s why we’re working to support the next generation of healthcare professionals, particularly those from underrepresented groups.

We are committed to increasing the successful matriculation of Black and African American medical students and residents. Our scholarship program is a vital part of this mission, as we strive to foster diversity and increase representation within the medical field.

About Our Scholarships

Medical education is a significant investment. The costs of tuition, room and board, books, supplies, licensing exams, and residency applications can add up quickly, and for many students, these expenses can become overwhelming.

Our scholarship program aims to alleviate this financial burden for students from underrepresented minority groups, making medical education more accessible.

In 2023 alone, the C.V. Roman Medical Society has been either directly responsible for or closely affiliated with approximately $20,000 of minority medical student scholarships.

By providing essential financial support, our scholarships empower these medical students to pursue their dreams and contribute to a more equitable healthcare system that improves health outcomes for all communities.

Our Scholarships

We offer a range of scholarships to medical students who are involved in the Student National Medical Association studying at the Dallas-Fort Worth medical schools, including UT SouthwesternBurnett School of Medicine at Texas Christian University, and Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Dr. Cheryl Harth, MD Scholarship

Dr. Cheryl Harth was inspired to pursue medicine after the loss of her beloved sister Lynda to sickle cell disease. Born on July 14, 1952, on Chicago’s South Side to pioneering parents—a law school graduate and an educator—Dr. Harth was raised with a strong sense of purpose. After graduating from Syracuse University, she was accepted to Rutgers Medical School and went on to complete her internal medicine residency at Methodist Hospital in Dallas. She went on to complete a fellowship at UT Southwestern and specialize in Hematology- Oncology.

A devoted wife, mother, and compassionate physician, Dr. Harth provided exceptional care to her patients for over 38 years. Her warmth, high standards, and deep empathy earned her the respect of her colleagues and the trust of countless patients and families. This scholarship honors her legacy of service, excellence, and humanity in medicine.

The Cheryl Harth, MD Scholarship is awarded annually to exceptional Texas First year medical students (MS1). Students must be enrolled in one of the Dallas-Fort Worth medical schools listed above or UT Medical Branch at Galveston.

This scholarship recognizes students who demonstrate academic excellence, a strong commitment to community service, and a passion for advancing the field of medicine, particularly in uplifting minority patients.

Additional Support

Our aim is to be a central resource for underrepresented minority medical students and residents in DFW. We understand their unique needs and challenges and are committed to supporting them on their journey to becoming healthcare professionals.

That’s why we also provide financial support to local medical students through sponsorships to attend the Student National Medical Association Annual Medical Education Conference (AMEC). We believe in the importance of schooling, fellowship, and mentorship as integral components of a well-rounded education, and we’re proud to support these initiatives for the next generation of physicians.

The future of medicine lies in the hands of our students. By supporting them, we’re investing in a better, more inclusive healthcare system for all communities.
